Además, ¡hay muchas opciones para elegir! Por eso, en este artículo te recomiendo 10 lugares de Sudáfrica que a mí me encantaron y te comparto algunos consejos que me hubiese gustado saber antes de ir allí.

Viajé a Sudáfrica en marzo de 2018 con Carolina, una de mis mejores amigas. Este viaje fue, para mí, uno de los viajes más lindos que he hecho en mi vida.. Recorrimos más de 4.000 km entre Johannesburgo y Ciudad del Cabo. Me interesó muchísimo explorar los diferentes lugares del país Conocimos a muchísimas personas con historias interesantes. I traveled to South Africa in March 2018 with Carolina, one of my best friends. This trip was, for me, one of the most beautiful trips I have ever done in my life. We traveled over 4,000 km between Johannesburg and Cape Town. I was very interested in exploring the different places in the country. We met a lot of people with interesting stories. Some tips before you start your trip
Para empezar, te recomiendo viajar en avión hasta Johannesburgo o Ciudad del Cabo. Los vuelos son más baratos si viajas a una de esas dos ciudades. Nosotras viajamos desde Buenos Aires hasta Joburg (como le dicen) y comenzamos nuestro viaje apenas aterrizamos en el aeropuerto.
To start with, I recommend flying to Johannesburg or Cape Town. Flights are cheaper if you travel to one of those two cities. We traveled from Buenos Aires to Joburg (as they call it) and we began our journey as soon as we landed at the airport.
En segundo lugar, te recomiendo alquilar un coche y recorrer el país por tu cuenta. Eso es lo que nosotras hicimos. Alquilamos el coche directamente en el aeropuerto y nos dirigimos a Hazyview. Si viajas con tu propio vehículo, eres dueño de tus tiempos. Además, las rutas y paisajes son verdaderamente muy diferentes y vale la pena recorrer Sudáfrica de esta manera.
Second, I recommend renting a car and self driving the country. That’s what we did. We rented the car directly at the airport and headed to Hazyview. If you travel with your own vehicle, you own your time. Furthermore, the routes and landscapes are truly very different and it is worth touring South Africa in this way.

1) Parque Nacional Kruger: el segundo parque nacional más grande del mundo y hogar de algunos de los animales más majestuosos de África.

El Parque Nacional Kruger se encuentra en la provincia de Limpopo en Sudáfrica. Es la reserva de animales más grande de toda África y cubre más de 20.000 kilómetros cuadrados.
The Kruger National Park is located in the Limpopo province of South Africa. It is the largest game reserve in all of Africa and covers more than 20,000 square kilometers.

Una visita a Drakensberg, es una experiencia para atesorar. Las “montañas del dragón” (Drakensberg en afrikáans) o “barrera de las lanzas” como es llamada en zulú forman parte del Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO. Si disfrutas ir de excursión, no puedes perderte la oportunidad de caminar por los senderos de este parque.
A visit to the Drakensberg is an experience to treasure. The “dragon mountains” (Drakensberg in Afrikaans) or “barrier of the spears” as it is called in Zulu, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you enjoy hiking, you cannot miss the opportunity to walk the trails of this park.
El río Tugela drena las montañas Drakensberg y atraviesa el paisaje accidentado de KwaZulu Natal. Es uno de los ríos más pintorescos de Sudáfrica y su belleza natural atrae a muchos visitantes cada año. El salto del Tugela o cascada Tugela es la segunda cascada más alta del mundo. Definitivamente una vista imperdible.
The Tugela River drains the Drakensberg Mountains and cuts through the rugged landscape of KwaZulu Natal. It is one of the most picturesque rivers in South Africa and its natural beauty attracts many visitors each year. The Tugela waterfall is the second highest waterfall in the world. Definitely a must see.
Hay senderos para todos los niveles en este parque pero te recomiendo que vayas con calzado adecuado para hacer senderismo… y si puedes despertarte temprano para ver el amanecer sobre las montañas te aseguro que no te arrepentirás.
There are trails for all levels in this park but I recommend that you go with suitable footwear for hiking … and if you can wake up early to see the sunrise over the mountains, I assure you that you will not regret it.

3) Coffee Bay: el corazón de la costa salvaje

La Costa Salvaje es completamente diferente a la Ruta del Jardín y por esa misma razón, te recomiendo visitarla. Tienes muchas playas increíbles y paisajes más agrestes, pero mi lugar favorito fue Coffee Bay.
The Wild Coast is completely different from the Garden Route and for that very reason, I recommend you visit it. You have many amazing beaches and more rugged landscapes, but my favorite place was Coffee Bay.
Para llegar allí tienes que conducir por una ruta que tiene algunos pozos y en la que se cruzan muchos animales. A nosotras nos asustaron un poco en el hostel de Drakensberg cuando comentamos que queríamos conducir hasta Coffee Bay. En mi opinión, no hay motivos para viajar con miedo, pero sí recomiendo conducir durante el día.
To get there you have to drive along a route that has some pits and where many animals cross. They scared us at the Drakensberg hostel when we said we wanted to drive to Coffee Bay. In my opinion, there is no reason to travel in fear, but I do recommend driving during the day.
Una vez en Coffee Bay, hay muchas actividades para hacer. A mí lo que más me gustó fue la caminata hasta el Hole in the Wall. Las vistas son increíbles y además soy una gran fan de los acantilados.
Once in Coffee Bay, there are many activities to do. What I liked the most was the walk to the Hole in the Wall. The views are incredible and I’m also a huge fan of cliffs.
También puedes tomar una clase de surf. Carolina y yo nos hospedamos en el hostel Coffee Shack y allí ofrecían clases. Tal vez tuvimos suerte, pero las condiciones para surfear allí fueron mucho mejores que cuando surfeamos en Jeffrey ‘s Bay. Como aclaración les cuento que somos principiantes en este deporte.
You can also take a surf class. Carolina and I stayed at the Coffee Shack hostel and they offered classes there. Maybe we were lucky, but the surfing conditions there were much better than when we surfed at Jeffrey ‘s Bay. As a side note, I tell you that we are beginners in this sport.

Storms River es el primer pueblo de la Ruta del Jardín si vienes desde el este. La naturaleza está muy presente y hay muchas opciones para hacer senderismo. El lugar parece sacado de El señor de los anillos.
Storms River is the first town on the Garden Route if you come from the east. Nature is very present and there are many options for hiking. The place looks like something out of The Lord of the Rings.
Si disfrutas pasar el día al aire libre caminando, te gusta la aventura y conectar con la naturaleza, entonces tienes que visitar el Parque Tsitsikamma. En general, la regla de oro en Sudáfrica es que si hay un parque nacional debes visitarlo.
If you enjoy spending the day outdoors walking, you like adventure and connect with nature, then you have to visit Tsitsikamma Park. In general, the golden rule in South Africa is that if there is a national park you must visit it.

Si estás buscando un destino de vacaciones perfecto donde puedas disfrutar de un tiempo libre, entonces la Ruta de los Jardines debería ser tu lugar ideal. Puedes disfrutar de algunas actividades como el surf o el senderismo para disfrutar de la belleza natural de este lugar o simplemente disfrutar de unas relajantes vacaciones en una de sus hermosas playas.

There are vineyards throughout South Africa that have become tourist destinations. One of them is Stellenbosch, which is located on the slopes of Devil’s Peak in the Western Cape region.
Si vas a visitar varios viñedos y quieres degustar sus productos, te recomiendo no conducir. Puedes contratar a un guía o un chófer para que te lleve a todos los lugares que quieres conocer.
If you are going to visit several vineyards and want to taste their products, I recommend not driving. You can hire a guide or a driver to take you to all the places you want to know.

Oudtshoorn es una pequeña ciudad de Sudáfrica, a unos 250 kilómetros de Ciudad del Cabo. Se la conoce como la capital mundial del avestruz.

La economía de Oudtshoorn se basa en la agricultura y el turismo. Uno de los principales atractivos de esta zona son las Cuevas de Cango, una serie de cuevas llenas de estalagmitas y estalactitas.
Oudtshoorn’s economy is based on agriculture and tourism. One of the main attractions in this area are the Cango Caves, a series of caves filled with stalagmites and stalactites.

Muchas personas me preguntan si es una ciudad segura. Tal vez es porque soy argentina y viví muchos años en Buenos Aires, pero yo creo que puedes visitar cualquier lugar del mundo, sin miedo y con mucho cuidado.
Many people ask me if it is a safe city. Perhaps it is because I am Argentine and I lived for many years in Buenos Aires, but I believe that you can visit any place in the world, without fear and being careful.
A continuación, te recomiendo 3 lugares para visitar. Por supuesto, hay muchísimas cosas para hacer en la ciudad. Nosotras visitamos museos, hicimos caminatas con estos grupos de Free Walking Tour para conocer mejor la historia del lugar y fuimos a Farmers Markets para sentirnos menos turistas.
Next, I recommend 3 places to visit. Of course, there are tons of things to do in the city. We visited museums, went on walks with these Free Walking Tour groups to learn more about the history of the place and went to Farmers Markets to feel less touristy.
Sin embargo, una de las cosas que más me gustó de esta ciudad fue lo presente que se encuentra la naturaleza, y por esta razón todas mis recomendaciones están relacionadas con explorar lugares al aire libre.
However, one of the things that I liked the most about this city was how present nature is, and for this reason all my recommendations are related to exploring outdoor places.

A mí me fascinan los jardines botánicos e intento visitarlos siempre que voy a un nuevo destino. Si quieres pasar un lindo día al aire libre, ver especies que probablemente no has visto antes, te lo recomiendo. Para mí, solo ver el baobab es suficiente como para justificar la entrada. El parque ofrece visitas guiadas que valen la pena.
Botanical gardens fascinate me and I try to visit them whenever I go to a new destination. If you want to spend a nice day outdoors, see species that you have probably not seen before, I recommend it. For me, just seeing the baobab is enough to justify the ticket. The park offers worthwhile guided tours.

Te recomiendo visitar también la localidad de Muizenberg que está muy cerca y tiene unas playas muy bonitas en donde puedes encontrar las famosas casitas de colores.
I recommend you also visit the town of Muizenberg, which is very close and has very beautiful beaches where you can find the famous colorful houses.
El recorrido en coche por la Península es muy interesante.El Cabo de Buena Esperanza, que tiene una altura de 365 metros sobre el nivel del mar, es también el punto más austral del continente africano. Cuando fuimos allí había muchísimo viento así que te recomiendo llevar una chaqueta si vas a visitarlo.
The drive through the Peninsula is very interesting. The Cape of Good Hope, which is 365 meters above sea level, is also the southernmost point of the African continent. When we went there it was very windy so I recommend you bring a jacket if you are going to visit it.
Chapmans Peak Drive, que corre a lo largo de la costa del Parque Nacional Table Mountain durante unos 30 kilómetros, ofrece vistas impresionantes y pasa por una topografía espectacular. Definitivamente recomiendo hacer este recorrido con un coche así puedes disfrutar de los miradores, tomar fotos y tomar un mate con esa vista espectacular.
Chapmans Peak Drive, which runs along the coast of Table Mountain National Park for about 30 kilometers, offers breathtaking views and passes through spectacular topography. I definitely recommend doing this tour with a car so you can enjoy the viewpoints, take photos and have a mate with that spectacular view.

Viajar a Sudáfrica es siempre una buena idea. La gente es amable, los paisajes son diversos e impactantes y el poder de la naturaleza se siente en cada lugar que visitas.
Traveling to South Africa is always a good idea. The people are friendly, the landscapes are diverse and impressive, and the power of nature is felt in every place you visit.
Por supuesto todo depende de cuánto tiempo de vacaciones tengas. Carolina y yo tuvimos casi tres semanas y las aprovechamos muy bien. Fue un ritmo intenso, agotador. Conducimos mucho y caminamos más. Pero valió la pena.
Of course it all depends on how much vacation time you have. Carolina and I had almost three weeks and we took advantage of them very well. It was an intense, exhausting pace. We drove a lot and walked more. But it was worth it.
